Set of four hinges (two upper hinges and two lower hinges)
1968-74 AMX and Javelin Door Hinge Rebuild. The pictures are examples of a rebuilt hinge set and the two different lower hinge styles. Get those plastic bushings replaced with some top quality metal. By purchasing, you agree to send me a rebuildable set of cores for exchange. I cannot accept any broken castings. The parts I make are the best out there. The main vendors know their parts are junk and don't care. I make this statement to keep you from making the same mistake many other AMC fans have already made. People send me these "AMC vendor" inferior parts and I just end up throwing them in the scrap bin. I cannot and will not use that stuff.
The detent arms and rollers that others sell are not heat treated and will lead to premature wear. Also their bushings are made of softer/cheaper brass and that is not going to last very long. One AMC vendor is actually selling bronze bushings, but the pin that goes with them are too sloppy to fit correctly. A door hinge is not something you want to replace more than once after spending hundreds of hours restoring the car.
The rebuilt hinges include the following:
- Each hinge has a custom made pin that is properly sized for the bushing
- Bronze bushings (not the cheaper and softer brass)
- Very close tolerances between the pin and bronze bushings (no wiggle in the hinge).
- Each hinges is taken apart and then media blasted.
- Broken or missing detent arms are replaced with heat treated arms
- Hinges with broken, worn or missing rollers/pins are replaced
- New custom made springs are installed on each upper hinge.
- Each mounting hole is checked for good threads
- Each hinges is oiled and then sealed in a plastic bag to help reduce any flash rusting.
- Oil will need to be removed before you paint the hinge. Brake cleaner works good to remove oil or use another paint prep solvent.
I have a couple of sets ready to ship. With an exchange, shipping will happen within a couple of days after I receive your rebuildable hinges. Shipping to and from, is at your cost. Please specify if you want the 1968 three hole lower hinge or the 1969-74 two hole lower hinge.
